Ninja Née and the Secret of the Signal Tower
A Hands-On STEM Adventure at Sands Point Preserve
When school is out, curiosity doesn’t have to be.
On Monday, January 19, 2026, the Synchronicity team returns to the Sands Point Preserve with a special daytime STEM adventure for kids in grades 2 through 6: Ninja Née and the Secret of the Signal Tower. The timing is simple and practical: it’s a school holiday, families are looking for something meaningful to do, and kids have the space to dive into a longer, more immersive experience.
This workshop turns that free day into an active, story-driven science adventure. No lectures. No worksheets. Just exploration, problem-solving, and hands-on discovery.
A Story That Pulls Kids Into the Science
The Secret of the Signal Tower
The workshop is built around an original Ninja Née story and draws upon the picturesque landmarks found on the Sands Point Preserve grounds for inspiration. An old tower attached to a mansion is flashing with some sort of beacon. Something important is missing, and it’s up to the kids — along with Nin Née — to figure out what it means.
Rather than being told the answers, students step into the role of junior problem-solvers. Each challenge reveals another piece of the puzzle. The story gives purpose to the science, and the science moves the story forward.
Kids are learning concepts by using them.
How Science Shows Up in the Experience
Communication Without Screens
Throughout the workshop, kids explore how information can travel without modern technology. Light, motion, sound, and patterns become tools instead of abstract ideas. Concepts that often feel invisible suddenly become physical and understandable.
They see how messages can be encoded. They test how signals can be misunderstood. They discover why clarity and structure matter when information has to travel across space.
Engineering Through Experimentation
Nothing is one-and-done. Kids test ideas, notice what works, and adjust. If something fails, it becomes part of the process instead of a dead end. The emphasis stays on curiosity and iteration, not perfection.
The science is real, but it’s delivered in a way that feels natural and playful rather than academic.
Why This Works Especially Well for Grades 2–6
Designed for Mixed Ages
This experience is intentionally built for a wide elementary range. Younger students engage through movement and visual problem-solving. Older students start noticing patterns, systems, and cause-and-effect relationships.
Everyone participates at their own level, and no one is left behind or bored.
Ideal for Curious, Hands-On Learners
This workshop is a strong fit for kids who like building, tinkering, asking questions, or getting absorbed in imaginative play. It’s especially helpful for students who don’t always thrive in traditional sit-and-listen environments.
The Role of Sands Point Preserve
Place Matters
Sands Point Preserve adds something you can’t recreate in a classroom. The grounds, the space, and the sense of history naturally support the idea of long-distance communication and hidden messages.
Kids aren’t just imagining a signal tower. They’re standing in a place where the idea feels plausible and exciting. The environment becomes part of the storytelling, not just a backdrop.
Turning a Day Off Into Something Memorable
A school holiday can disappear quickly. This workshop gives it shape.
Kids leave with a clearer understanding of how communication systems work, stronger confidence in problem-solving, and the memory of spending a day actively doing something interesting instead of just passing time.
It feels like an adventure, but it quietly builds real STEM thinking along the way.
